Are You Called to Be a Prophet, 2015

In her practice OKO employs methodology od combining various cultural references, and creates phantasmagorical works with estranging effect, often humorous and disconcerting at the same time. In a defiance to her Catholic upbringing and expectations of her environment on how a young woman should carry itself, in Are You Called to Be a Prophet she draws a self-portrait as both a seven-headed beast and a clown, in a moment of putting on her mask. The seven animals that compose the mask - the whale, the butterfly, the dog, the mouse, the grouse, the wild boar and the blue heron - are chosen by OKO as her guardians from medicine cards. This self-imposed game of chance thus becomes a way to claim the right to construct one’s own identity.
